Story
This photograph almost doesn’t look real—but it is.
I had launched the drone to capture the sunset over my father's house in Vallejo, CA, focused in the direction where the sun was going down. That was the plan. That’s where the color should have been. But it was not the best.
But experience has taught me something important:
Always look behind you.
So I turned the drone.
And this is what I saw.
The light from the setting sun—now behind me—was reflecting off a layer of clouds stretched across the sky. Below them, the green hills caught just enough of that glow to bring out their shape and color. It wasn’t the sunset itself, but it was where the beauty had settled that evening.
Sometimes the best light isn’t where you expect it to be.
This photograph carries more meaning for me than just the scene.
