Story
What a sight—a full double rainbow.
This photograph was taken in early 2024 in Vallejo, CA, during a time when my world had become much smaller. I was living at my father’s house as the primary caregiver for my mom as she declined from Alzheimer’s. She was bedridden, and most of my time was spent close by—present, attentive, and grounded in that space.
It didn’t leave much room to get out.
Each day, even briefly, I could lift the drone into the air and see something beyond the immediate—beyond the walls, beyond the routine. It became a small but meaningful form of escape.
On this particular day, I looked out the window and recognized the conditions: rain had just passed, and sunlight was breaking through. The formula was there.
There could be a rainbow!
I launched the drone and turned it toward the light—and there it was. Not just one arc, but two. A full double rainbow stretching across the sky.
I captured the image quickly, knowing how fleeting these moments can be.
Later, as I looked more closely at the photograph, I noticed something unusual.
