Debris From Wrecked Ship Exposed

Emerging from the mud of low tide, decaying wood takes the shape of what could be a shipwreck.

Story

This photograph came from a moment of discovery.
I had gone out flying the drone over the Carquinez Strait, near Southampton Bay, during low tide. I often plan these outings carefully—checking tide charts and sunset times, trying to align everything just right so the setting sun reflects off the wet, muddy flats.
On this particular day, things didn’t quite line up.
I was out earlier than planned. The sun was still high enough to cast long shadows, but it wasn’t yet the golden light I had been hoping for. Still, once the drone is in the air, I like to explore.
And that’s when I saw it.
An outline in the mud.
At first, it didn’t fully register—just a shape, something irregular. But as I moved closer, the form became clear: the remains of a ship, partially exposed by the low tide, resting quietly in the bay.
It felt like uncovering something hidden.
I’ve always been fascinated by shipwrecks. There are documentaries which I like to watch that are devoted to revealing wrecks beneath the ocean, but here this one was—in my own scopes and vision.
