White rocks form a heart against the dark lava rock. An inspirational photograph.

Story

This is a simple photograph—but a fun one.
A heart shape made from pale coral stones arranged on dark volcanic lava rock along the coast of Big Island.
We discovered these little creations on the way to the airport after spending a week at a resort on the island. Little of the trip was spent relaxing at a resort. We mostly spent time exploring—driving the coastline, stopping at interesting places, and taking in the unique landscapes of Hawaii.
Along this stretch of shoreline, people had arranged coral rocks into different shapes and symbols on top of the black lava formations.
One was a giant “J,” which naturally caught my attention because I'm Jay.
Another resembled the San Francisco Giants logo, my favorite baseball team, suggesting there were a few Bay Area baseball fans visiting the island.
