Old piers in Benicia, CA appear to come from nowhere and lead to nowhere as well.

Story

I’ve seen photographs like this before—where the horizon disappears.
Where the boundary between sky and water dissolves into fog, and objects seem to float in the middle of nothing.
I just never expected to take one myself.
This was captured along First Street in Benicia on a foggy morning. I had gone out intending to photograph the sunrise over the Carquinez Strait, a place I often visit for its wide, open views and shifting light.
But the fog was too thick to fly the drone safely, and too dense for any kind of traditional sunrise scene. So instead, I stayed on foot and started photographing what was there.
And what was there was something entirely different.
Out in the water stood the remains of old piers—weathered, broken structures that once had purpose but now simply linger. With the fog covering the distance, the water and sky merged into a single, seamless tone.
