Story
This photograph came from an entirely ordinary day in San Francisco.
I had taken the ferry home and connected through BART, heading back toward my apartment in the Glen Park district. Normally I would have gone straight home—up a fairly steep hill—but that evening I decided to take the longer route through the park. Glen Park is a unique park in the City that can make one forget they are in a city, with a windy trail up a canyon.
Sometimes that’s where photographs happen. However this one happened even before I got to the park.
The along the sidewalk, I noticed this flowering bush beside the path. The blossoms look like hibiscus flowers—bright pink against the afternoon light.
I stopped immediately.
What caught my attention wasn’t just the flower itself, but the possibility of isolating it from everything around it.
